Using Pattern Language
On page xxxviii of A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction (step 3), Christopher Alexander recommends not including "larger" patterns than the starting pattern, unless these patterns can somehow be created in developing the solution. On page xxxix, step 4 referes to the "next highest pattern" which was ticked, which suggests going up a level to pick up additional patterns that are peers of the starting pattern.
